Brought about by climate change and gradual environmental destruction, organizations and companies across the country are coming up with distinctive ideas to contribute and aid for the betterment of nature. With its strong desire to raise environmental awareness to the public, SM City Marilao has always been poised to stimulate campaigns significant to its shoppers and visitors. The lifestyle mall is dedicated to showcase another offering– this time, on being beneficial and eco-friendly.
The E-LluminART project hence blossomed, and was plotted from April 22 – May 18, 2017 where shoppers binged into a fun and unique work of art experience dedicated to recycling and conserving.
SM City Marilao, as being a strong platform for awareness, has successfully launched E-LluminART with its goal to create a mall attraction wherein shoppers and their families can breeze through its fine message of environmental conservation through a fun, engaging and picture-perfect approach – all explicitly designed for Earth Day celebration. As an eco-friendly light art installation that uses innovative approach focusing on recycling, reducing energy consumption and sustainability, this fully solar-powered display was created with energy-saving LED lighting and recycled materials recovered from the Marilao River clean up drive. All recovered plastic bottles, corks and other recyclables were cleaned and restored in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and designed by world-class Filipino contemporary artist Brian Sergio who has staged different art shows in Japan and United States of America, transforming the mall into a dazzling palette of colors displayed vividly in the mall area.
Furthermore, SM City Marilao’s e-LluminART proudly sheds light to Sta. Cruz Mission Parish community in the province of Bulacan being the mall’s beneficiary, as all solar power machines and LED bulbs have been donated to help with the neighborhood’s lighting needs as electricity remains scarce in the area.
