CPA Australia was founded by 45 auditors in Melbourne in 1886. Today, we are one of the world’s largest professional accounting bodies with over 150,000 members across 120 countries. We have 19 offices around the world and is ranked as the number one Australian membership body with the largest international membership outside of Australia.
CPA Australia has 4 offices in Greater China - Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. In 1990 when the Hong Kong office was first set up, there were less than 16 members and today, we have over 16,000 members which is an astonishing 1000% growth.
CPA Australia provides a world-class training program for professional accountants. Our CPA Program is recognized with ISO 9001 certification for our quality management system. In 2013, over 54,000 exams were conducted across 70 countries, making us the number one Australian membership body to conduct the largest quantity of exams every year.
Our CPA Congress is hosted across 14 cities every year. Our Congress is the largest accounting conference in the Southern Hemisphere, attracting over 10,000 delegates each year. Many distinguished leaders from the government and business community had been our speakers.
CPA Australia is also the only Australian membership body with its own television series - The Bottom Line. It’s broadcasted on Channel 9 in Australia every Saturday. Our Chief Executive, Alex Malley, is the host, he interviewed many iconic leaders, including the first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong, former New Zealand Prime Minister, Helen Clark and Olympic gold medallist, Kathy Freeman. Reaching into its third series in 2013, the show attracted over 1.7 million viewers and positioned CPA Australia as the industry pioneer on leadership conversation.
In 2013, CPA Australia also launched The Naked CEO website to equip students for their career journey. Our Chief Executive, Alex Malley, made short videos about life in international corporations to help students understand the essence of corporate expectations. Alex also shared his insights with the students on the website.
Over one million people visited the website since 2013 and the site won the 2014 Mumbrella Awards for the best Content Marketing Strategy of the Year. In 2014, Alex merged his insights into a book - The Naked CEO, it was an international success and was the top best seller in Australia.
We also have our own member magazine – INTHEBLACK, which provides global perspectives on issues and trends on business and career success. INTHEBLACK has won numerous awards over the years, including “The Magazine of the Year 2014” at the Publishers Australia Excellence Awards.
CPA Australia’s commitment in education and training is also being recognized in China. In 2014, CPA Australia won the Australia China Business Award for Education and Training. This award reaffirms our position as a global leader in the accounting profession.
One of our main focuses is help our members establish valuable and mutually rewarding relationships with one another. In September 2013, CPA Australia hosted the world’s largest business speed networking event to help members establish greater business networks. Over 400 accounting professionals attended and it broke the Guinness World Records for being the world’s largest business speed networking event.
Recognising our global success, the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) appointed our Board of Director, Prof. Richard Petty, as a board member on IFAC, which is a great honour.
CPA Australia also has a strong duty of care for the wider community. A Christmas carnival is organised for the underprivileged children in Hong Kong every year and our members would deliver gifts to families in need before Christmas. We were awarded the finalist for the HKCSS Outstanding Partnership Award in 2013 and we are the winner for the Merit Awards at the HSBC Living Business Award for “Community Engagement” and “People Caring” in 2014.
