Entry:
The 30th PT Petrokimia Gresik (PG) Innovation Convention was held on 13-14 April, 2016. Employees have the opportunity to form Innovation Task Forces (ITFs) and participate in the Convention to share knowledge and innovation. In 2016, the number of ITF participation increased from 820 ITFs to 1,003 ITFs and resulted in 30.90 billion rupiah of cost efficiency.
Currently, the Convention attracted more participants. There are 1,124 ITFs already registered to compete on the next annual Convention in April 2017.
CONCEPT:
For the first time in PG history, the 30th Innovation Convention was held for two days in PG indoor stadium. With the theme “eXtensive innovations eXhibit eXcellent performances”, all Top 3 nominees in every category were given the honor to showcase their innovations in front of all employees and the Board of Directors. In the past, only limited amount of employees can come to the Convention. The event, served as a medium to motivate innovative thinking amongst employees, was also used to promote PG and subsidiaries products and achievements to Government officials, business partners, and other stakeholders.
PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT:
The planning of the event and judging process for ITFs started from January 2016. The event organizer (EO) was consists of employees from every Department in the company. It was unanimously decided that to promote PG and its subsidiaries, for the first time all subsidiaries and Department in PG each provided with a booth stand (Expo) to exhibit achievements and gain recognition. Every booth was given the opportunity to be unique and entertaining, preventing the atmosphere of the Convention to be too casual (as it always was). By the end of the Convention, the EO decided the Best Booth Stand and announced the Favorite Booth Stand by visitors’ choice. The EO also designed the Layout of the Convention and the Showcase Stage, while all properties were provided by the General Service Department of PG.
PROMOTION:
We invited our shareholders, business partners, and other stakeholders throughout East Java Province. We also promoted the event through printed media, corporate website, and social media platforms such as Facebook (Petrokimia Gresik Official), Youtube (Petrokimia Gresik), Twitter (@petrogresik), and Instagram (petrokimiagresik_official) for the public to see.
EXECUTION:
The Convention started with the Board of Directors visiting Booth Stands before watching ITF performances. In total, there were 123 ITFs showcases in the Convention. Judging Panel was consists of 184 middle-level management employees from every Department. All participants did their best in presenting and even showed up in costumes ranging from comic Super Heroes to traditional Javanese ‘Wayang’ Heroes. It was almost like in a Comic Con event. After all Top 3 ITFs and winners of Booth Stand (Expo) competition were awarded, the Judging Panel also awarded Mr. Denny Firmansyah from Maintenance Department as ‘Employee with Most Involvement in Innovation Activity’ for his contribution in 20 ITFs.
ACHIEVEMENTS:
The potential cost efficiency resulted in ongoing company operational was projected to reach 84.49 billion rupiah. From this event, employees are highly motivated to innovate, and PG also received high reputation and external recognition including:
1. ASEAN Best Practices Award in the ASEAN Energy Awards 2016;
2. First Winner in Energy Management in Industry and Building Structure category from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources;
3. Social Business Innovation Award 2016 from the Ministry of Environment;
4. Diamond Award from the International Exposition of Team Excellence Symposium 2016;
5. 6 Platinum Awards and 2 Gold Awards from the International Quality & Productivity Convention 2016;
6. 10 Awards from Pupuk Indonesia Excellence Award 2016;
7. ASEAN Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award in the 33rd Conference of ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations 2015 in Malaysia.
The Convention also promoted PG latest product innovation such as Petro Hibrid, Petro Gladiator, Petro CAS, NPK Cassava, and Petroganik Premium.
